Calligraphy Studio

Tuesday 9:00 am - noon

An ongoing calligraphy class focused on two or three of the most important calligraphic styles: Foundational, Italic, Uncial and Carolingian scripts. Individual instruction, class demonstrations and individual creative projects allow the student to learn about letterforms, spacing and dynamics of composition, colour and gesture in calligraphy. For beginners and more experienced students.

Mixed Media Drawing and Painting

Tuesday 1:00 - 4:00 pm
Saturday 1:00 - 4:00 pm

Opening the boundaries between drawing and painting, this course explores creative possibilities and the vast array of tools and materials available to the mixed media artist. Watercolour, acrylics, ink, coloured pencils, pastels and more are used to approach subjects in a multi-layered, playful manner. Inspiration will be drawn from both past and contemporary artists. Some drawing and painting experience required.

Watercolour: Basics and Beyond (mature students)

Wed. 1:00 - 4:00 pm

Course covers the basic materials and techniques of watercolour painting. Instruction includes washes, glazing, wet-on-wet, and use of the white of the paper to establish luminosity. Learn the basics of colour mixing, brushwork, composition and perspective, while developing your expressive painting style. Weekly projects include still life, landscape, nature studies, abstraction and the model. Beginner and intermediate levels.
